Specification for heat treated carbon & weathering steel bolts, steel with 120
ksi Minimum Tensile Strength, for use in structural bolting applications.
ASTM A325
specification covers two types of quenched and tempered steel heavy hex bolts in
metric and imperial sizes for structural purpose. The specification includes
type 1 & type 3 fastener material intended for structural bolting purpose. Type
1 is a heat treated high strength plain carbon, carbon-boron, alloy steel or
alloy boron steel bolting materials with minimum tensile requirement of 105 ksi,
yield 81 ksi and maximum hardness limit of 25 - 35 HRC. Type 3 is heat treated
weathering steel bolting material with similar strength requirement to type 1
but greater corrosion protection and are prominently used in humid weather
conditions.
